Steps to Apply


Please use the following checklist to ensure your application to the Police Academy is complete.

 

STEP 1: PRE-ADMISSION

Bacterial Meningitis 

Show evidence of vaccination against Bacterial Meningitis to the Office of Admissions. 

Official Transcripts

Submit official transcript of high school record or

Submit official college/university transcripts to the Office of Admissions.

Assessment Scores

Students must take a state-approved placement test and submit test scores at the time of registration. 

Schedule, pre-pay ($35 on the day of the test to the Cashier's Office) and take the TSI test at any NC campus Testing Center.

Must bring test scores to the Academy personnel immediately following the test - no exceptions per the Police Academy's Advisory Board.

FAST Application / Criminal History Records Check

The costs associated with FAST Fingerprints is $39.05

Download and print the Non-Law Enforcement Academy TCOLE FAST Fingerprint application (Follow the instructions).

Schedule your appointment with IdentoGO online or by calling 1(888) 467-2080. Print your appointment form and take valid forms of ID to your appointment. Payment fee due at the time of appointment via approved FAST site.

NOTE: Students are required to immediately notify the Academy Coordinator of any arrest/criminal charge that occurs AFTER the submission of the FAST fingerprint check. Failure to disclose such information will result in dismissal from the Academy.

NOTE: Students are required to report any subsequent suspension of their driver's license to Academy staff immediately. Failure to notify Academy staff of such action is grounds for dismissal from the Academy.

Notification of FAST application results

The Academy will contact the student after receiving information from TCOLE regarding results of the FAST application.

The student should proceed with STEP 2 - Apply to the Police Academy Program upon directions from Academy staff.

 

 

STEP 2: APPLY TO THE POLICE ACADEMY PROGRAM

Failure to complete any and all required forms will result in delay in registering you as a cadet into the academy.

Police Academy Program Application for Admission

1. Applicants must have submitted the Police Academy Application.

2. Applicants must have submitted the Personal History Statement.

3. Applicants must schedule an appointment with the Program Coordinator once the Personal History Statement is submitted.

Transcripts

Submit a copy of:- High School Transcript / Diploma

- Proof of GED
- College / University Transcript

Physical Exam / Drug Screen

The cost associated with these items is listed with the Provider Contact information below.

See the approved list of facilities for scheduling medical exams and drug screening in the L2 & L3 Provider Information in the below section. Notify the Police Academy once the medical exams are scheduled.  The Academy will be responsible for submitting your TCOLE L-2 form to the physican or examining official to complete.  When the exams are completed the physican or examining official will return the completed forms to the Police Academy.  

If an individual is determined not to be physically sound or free from any defect which may adversely affect the performance of duties or shows traces of drug dependency or illegal drug use, both the physician or examining official and the Academy must submit the L2 form to TCOLE.  


1. Select a provider from the list below and set an appointment.

2. Notify the Academy of the provider you are scheduled to see and the date of your appointment.

Psychological Exam

See the approved list of facilities for scheduling medical exams and drug screening in the L2 & L3 Provider Information in the below section.

Notify the Police Academy once the psychological evaluation is scheduled.  The Academy will be responsible for submitting your TCOLE L-3 form to the psychologist for completion.  When the evaluation is completed the psychologist will return the completed forms to the Police Academy.  

If an individual is determined not to be in satisfactory psychological or emotional health to serve, both the psychologist and the Academy must submit the L3 form to TCOLE.  


1. Select a provider from the list below and set an appointment.

2. Notify the Academy of the provider you are scheduled to see and the date of your appointment.

IMPORTANT! Make an additional copy of the Personal History Statement and submit the original to the Academy and the completed copy to psychological examiner prior to exam.

Other Required Documentation

Submit copies of the following:

1. Texas Driver's License (Only color copy accepted)

2. Social Security Card (Only color copy accepted)

3. Copy of DPS Criminal History Conviction Record (See Student Checklist for directions). If you have never had a conviction the page will say "No Results". Please print this page regardless and submit.

4. Copy of DPS Type 3A Driving Record. (See Student Checklist for directions.)

4. Military Discharge (DD214), if applicable

5. Certified Copy of Birth Certificate or Certificate of Naturalization Documents and U.S. Passport (documentation of citizenship). Academy staff must see original and make a copy of the document.

6. TSI Test Scores 

7. Submit signature page from Police Academy Student Handbook.  Your signature indicates that you have read, understand and agree to abide by the policy and procedures of the Police Acadmey pertaining to grades, dismissal, attendance and conduct.

8. Copy of your current Automobile Insurance Card.

 

 

STEP 3: NEXT STEPS

After STEPS 1 & 2 are completed and verified, begin preparing for first day of class.

Pay your tuition and fees. Payment for class may be accepted at the Cashier's Office on any NC Campus. Must be completed PRIOR to the first day of class.


Students can use FAFSA, the GI Bill® or other tuition assistance.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE PERSONAL HISTORY STATEMENT:

1. Read all directions on pages 3 and 4. 

2. In any space you are not entering information, you must mark N/A regardless if there is a N/A box to the left of the question.

3. On the bottom of each page, you are required to enter your initials. 

4. In Section 6 "Military Experience",  ALL applicants are required to answer questions 1 and 2 regarding Selective Service and provide an explanation if answering "No". 

5. In all sections where dates are requested, dates must be filled out accurately. 

6. In the sections with check boxes for "Yes/No", when answering "Yes" a corresponding box at the end of that section is provided for you to explain your answer. 

7. Write/type the number of the question you answered "Yes" to and then the reason for the answer. 

8. DO NOT SIGN the final page until you are in the presence of the Notary.
