HEALTH SCIENCES TRACK
Dawn Billy , '19
We are shining a spotlight on Dawn because she was one of the Ellis County Commencement Speakers at the Spring 2019 graduation ceremony.
Background: She is a first-generation high school and college student, so continuing her education was very important. She now has two Associate degrees (Pre-Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing)
Hometown: Waxahachie, Texas
“Navarro College has made a life-long impact on me. I remember when I first walked into the Waxahachie campus and even when I was working there, everyone was like family. They absolutely do everything they can for their students. If I listed every single professor or staff that impacted me during my time at Navarro College, people would be reading pages forever! Dr. Martin has made one of the biggest impacts on me and encouraged me to never give up on following my dream of becoming a nurse. He always said, “The sky is the limit.” He has always been my biggest supporter along with Mrs. Heather Hall. When I was struggling in nursing school, Mrs. Hall would always give me a hug and encourage me to not give up. She is absolutely phenomenal and is the true definition of a nurse. I am so blessed to have had Dr. Martin and Mrs. Hall in my life! Navarro College has easily become my home. “
Plans after graduating: She will attend The University of Texas at Arlington’s RN-MSN program this August. She eventually wants to become a family nurse practitioner.
